Purpose

 

Caucus is the FIRST step in the party convention cycle to endorse 2026 Republican candidates for office. Gather with like-minded neighbors and learn how candidates are endorsed and how they campaign.

Who May Attend

​

You may attend as an Observer or as a Participant. Participants will take part in the evening's activity:
​

• Review the Republican Party platform and submit suggestions to update it

• Meet your District's Republican State Legislative officials and candidates

• Hear from statewide candidates

• Become a volunteer or precinct official

• Learn how to become an election judge and poll challenger

• Run to become a voting Delegate to endorse our Party's State Legislature and Congressional District and State Office candidates

• Donate to SD32 Republicans so we may better support our Republican endorsed candidates

Those Eligible to be Participants Must:

• Live in the precinct

• Eligible to vote at time of the next state general election

• Agrees with Republican Party principles (View Party Platform in Party Documents)

• Will be voting for and/or will be affiliated with the Republican Party at the next general election

• Receive majority of precinct attendees' decision that you are eligible

Caucus Start - 7:00 p.m. (per State Statute)

There will be registration and information tables in school entries to help attendees find their Precincts and answer questions.

If you are not planning on attending, but wish to run for Delegate, please click the SD32 Non-Attendee Participation Form link below and submit to be received by Mary Amlaw, SD32 Republicans Chair, by January 27th.

The Non-Attendee Participation Form to be a Delegate is for legitimate absences only. Precinct attendees will vote that evening to accept non-attendee requests. You have the right to take time off work to be at a Precinct Caucus or a political party convention (If you are a Delegate or Alternate.) You must give your employer ten days written notice (See 202A.19, subd.2 and 202A.135).

​WHAT HAPPENS AT PRECINCT CAUCUS?

​

Delegates are elected to attend the SD32 Endorsing Convention to endorse SD32 Republican candidates running for state legislative positions. (Delegates at the SD32 Endorsing Convention will again be elected to the CD6 and State Conventions where delegates will endorse Congressional District (CD), Federal level candidates and State-wide candidates.)

Volunteers will be chosen to organize political activities in SD32 precincts. This could include maintaining contact lists, holding political meetings, and helping with campaign efforts.

​

Attendees discuss issues and ideas for SD32 and the Party to support. You can present an issue or idea for the Party to support, called a Resolution. If you convince other attendees to support your Resolution, it will be taken to the next political convention. Eventually, your Resolution could become part of the official Party platform.
